Dominik Sokolowski
Born in Poznań, Poland, in 1976, Dominik Sokolowski emigrated to Canada in 1989. He pursued studies in visual arts and design at the Université du Québec en Outaouais, where he developed an artistic approach at the intersection of painting, collage, and conceptual art. He began his professional career in 1996, gradually establishing himself as a notable figure in the Canadian contemporary scene.
Sokolowski is distinguished by a rich visual style, blending textures, fragments of memory, and symbolic elements. His works evoke worlds where memory, emotion, and identity intertwine in a sensitive exploration of the human experience. His technique, both intuitive and masterful, uses a wide variety of materials—paper, fabric, and salvaged objects—integrated into the painted surface to create a dense and poetic visual narrative.
His work has been exhibited across Canada, Europe, and the United States. He gained international attention in 2006 at the European Contemporary Art Fair in Strasbourg. In 2010, he was selected to represent Canada at the Official Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo, a milestone in his career.
Sokolowski's works are now included in numerous private and institutional collections. A prolific artist, he pursues his work with rigor and passion, guided by a deep commitment to art as a universal language and vehicle for emotion.
Based in Canada, Dominik Sokolowski continues to create with constant energy, exploring the connections between collective memory, personal imagination, and contemporary aesthetics. His art, both accessible and refined, invites an emotional reading of the world, driven by a profoundly humanist sensibility.
