Hugo Landry

Born in Gaspé in 1983, he lives and works in Quebec. Trained in visual arts and graphic design at Laval University (Quebec).

For nearly ten years, Hugo Landry has been exploring the effects of color as vectors of expression, seduction and, above all, joy. His large abstract paintings, covered with bands, rainbows or multicolored splashes, are sometimes rhythms and vibrations, sometimes explosions of energy.

The artist works mainly with a spatula, flat on canvas or on a wooden support. The arrangements of colors, which he spreads in thick frames or lets burst by dripping, offer joyful prismatic sequences. Control, rigor and the search for balance are part of this treatment which draws on pop and optical art and gestural painting.

So here is an original way for the artist to evoke diversity, that of feelings, of beings and of a world that really has nothing uniform about it.
